Once again, hours of work was lost on today’s blog entry! When will I learn to do the text in Word??? It’s almost 11 p.m., and on one of the most significant days I’ve had on this trek, it’s all gone – right after ‘Saved 10 seconds ago’ and right before ‘Publish’, it’s gone. Poof!
Thank you, WordPress – you’ve just guaranteed that I’ll never become a lifelong blogger. Well, anyway… here goes ‘Round 2’, which I’ll never be as happy with as the first.
I thought it would be an appropriate week to mention my home church, Hope Chapel, as my ‘Spotlight’ church of the week, as I’m passing through my home area. Today was Day 1 of two days that my church family will be joining me. There were about 40 people who came out to walk – I’ll admit that I was apprehensive, but God gave us a beautiful day and (I think) everyone had a good time of fun, fitness and fellowship!
The day’s walk began in Santa Monica with its beautiful beach and pier amusement park, then ‘eclectic’ (I’m being kind) Venice Beach. We wound our way around Marina del Rey’s small-craft harbor and Fisherman’s Village before ending the walk along Ballona Creek as sailboats paraded to and from the ocean.
My dear husband is a ‘destination’ walker – getting from Point A to Point B in the most efficient way possible. I’m more of a ‘journey’ walker. I don’t care how long it takes, I’m all about enjoying the trip. Within the first 5 minutes I knew I had fallen far enough behind that I wouldn’t be able to have much interaction with those in the front of the pack.
So… at some point I called Larry (who was providing transportation for those who weren’t going the whole 10 miles) and had him pick me up and drop me off just ahead of the faster walkers. Then I backtracked and had the chance to talk with some of those I didn’t get to see much in the beginning. Thanks to all of you for (literally) stepping out and putting ‘legs’ to your support for our missions!
I’m pretty hard-nosed about continuity in this trek – always going north to south in a straight line with only ‘time’ between. So after everyone had passed me as I backtracked, Larry hauled me back to where I had stopped earlier in Venice Beach and I completed the day’s last miles in the proper direction.
When Larry assured himself that everyone had finished safely, he parked at the end and walked back to meet me. We strolled the last mile side by side, after a really, truly, wonderful, blessed day. I hope that all who walked today felt the same.
Our group was wearing matching shirts that did attract some attention. Several of our companions were able to tell others about the reason we were walking – Hope Chapel Missions, and I had two such opportunities myself. I’ll be praying for more of the same tomorrow!

Just Another Mid-Winter Day in SoCal… (My apologies to the rest of the country.)
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. ~ Romans 8:9-11
