Lompoc to Buellton

This was one of the more physically challenging days I’ve had yet. It was definitely a Soles 4 Hope ‘Triathlon’ day: Drive – Walk – Bike. However, the scenery was lovely and the weather & temps were glorious!

Spotlights This Week:
Always: Hope Chapel Missions
Charity Spotlight: Intervarsity Christian Fellowship
Church Spotlight: Lompoc Foursquare Church – Lompoc, Ca

I left home at 6:15 a.m. for the drive to Lompoc.  I dropped off my bike and locked it up at a park in Buellton, drove 13 miles west to Lompoc, parked my car alongside Highway 246 just east of a traffic circle and started walking.

There was bus service between Lompoc and Buellton, but to make a long story short it was impractical for where I needed to go.  So – I had a 13 mile walk followed by a 13-mile bike ride back to my car, but this sets me up well for tomorrow.

All told, I finally finished the day well after 4 p.m. I drove back up to the last curve on Harris Grade just in time for the sunset and ate dinner in my car as I enjoyed the remains of the day while watching the lights come on in Lompoc below.  Beautiful! I’m hoping for a repeat performance tomorrow.

Here’s my photo of the day – very representative of the Santa Ynez Valley. A bit further down, that red fence was adorned with Christmas lights:

There was one little bit of weirdness today… when I got back to my car it had one of those little yellow tags stuck to it that you see on cars that have been abandoned along the freeway. It was parked well off the pavement in an often-used dirt turnout. The note specifically stated that it was NOT a citation, but CHP was apparently giving me a little ‘courtesy’ note to say that if the car was here longer than 72 hours (or if they had reason to suspect it had been abandoned) it would be cited and towed.

I suspect I’ll be crashing early tonight – it was a LONG day!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ~ Romans 15:13
