San Simeon to Cambria

All went well dropping Larry off in the dark at the Amtrak station, and he’s home safe & sound. My bus trip also went well – another ‘country’ bus with a friendly driver who was jovial with everyone on board.

I walked past a few more zebras as I left San Simeon, then took my time through the charming Moonstone Beach area and one of my favorite little towns – Cambria.  Our youngest son & his wife were married there. Good memories!

The SLO County buses don’t make flag stops, so my daily mileage is determined by the bus stop locations.  It’s only 7 miles from San Simeon to Cambria, but 12.5 to the next stop in Cayucos – so today’s short mileage will have to be made up tomorrow with a longer day.

I had an interesting thing happen today. As I was walking on the south end of Cambria, the road was narrow and curvy in places, and there wasn’t much in the way of houses. It was less than a mile, so it didn’t really concern me.  However, a well-dressed man in a gray BMW slowed down and asked if I needed a ride. I assured him I was okay, thanked him, and he drove on.

Later this afternoon I was on the way back to my host home and as I was driving through Morro Bay, the sun was about to set.  I veered onto an ocean-view side street and parked to watch.  There were a few other cars already there – and the driver of the one closest to me got out to put something in his trunk.  He was a well-dressed man in a gray BMW!

I rolled down the window and asked if he was in Cambria this morning – he was.

I asked if he had offered a woman a ride – he did.

I told him it was me – he laughed and said, “I don’t usually see people walking on that road.  I thought, ‘either that woman has a death wish, or she really needs to get somewhere’.

This was about 20 miles from where I had first seen him – I continue to be amazed at how often this type of thing has been happening to me on this journey!

  1. Laura, I sincerely believe that, through your interaction and second ‘chance’ comments to the ‘man in the suit/grey BMW’ that God has worked in His ‘coincidental’ way to reinforce the planted seed…
