Today the houses were few and far between. We started out on the wild coast and ended there as well – passing through the tiny town of Lucia about 8 miles in, perched on the side of a cliff.
We passed one beach that reminded Shani and I of our days living in Hawaii – there were even palm trees! I love the way the water covered the sand like a white blanket:
After we finished walking, we took a tour of Hearst Castle – it was impressive, but he kept building more and more, then changing his mind and tearing parts of it down to start again. We kept thinking about what great good he could have done with all that money.
He chose treasures on earth instead of treasures in heaven…
Tomorrow will be my last day walking with Shani. We’re going to start an hour earlier in order to out-walk the rain that’s expected in the early afternoon, then we’ll immediately start the drive back to L.A. for Thanksgiving!
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ~ Matthew 6:19-21
