The short story about today is that it was GREAT! Totally beautiful. The road was narrow and winding, and it was remote – but we had lots of tourist ‘company’ and traffic was light.
As I went out to my car this morning I was reminded about an incident on Saturday that I forgot to tell y’all about…
En route to San Jose to pick up Shani at the airport I was driving along Hwy 101. It was already dark, and out of nowhere something airborne hit the hood of my car. It all happened so fast and I couldn’t tell for sure what it was, but it looked like it might have actually been a toolbox.
The car was still running fine, so I made a mental note to check out the damage when I got to the airport – I was sure there was going to be damage…. but in all the excitement over seeing Shani I totally forgot about it.
Until the next morning.
I took one look and did a double-take – I thought I must have been looking at the wrong car. It literally had a hole the size of a baseball that went entirely through the hood! Then I remembered getting whacked on the freeway the night before.
Here’s what my poor little car looks like:
People keep telling me I’m lucky. No, not lucky – blessed. A little lower and it would have set off the airbag – a little higher and it would have come through the windshield. Blessed.
I’m also very thankful that the damage was limited to the hood. It didn’t hit the headlight, the grill or the bumper. Again, blessed.
Tomorrow we walk through the heart of Big Sur. The chance of rain is now almost nil, so it should be a great day!
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. ~ Psalm 138:7
