I’m having internet issues so I can’t post any pictures tonight. The walk across the bridge went amazingly well. There was rain all around, but not a drop on me until I got back to terra firma. Then it rained off and on the rest of the day (sometimes very hard). My host family just a mile from the bridge got HAIL while I was on the bridge! The wind also picked up – in the early afternoon the wind in Astoria was so significant that I didn’t even want to get out of my car. Traffic was incredibly light, especially coming from the Washington side. God answered every prayer.
As for the legalities of walking across the bridge… no pedestrians are allowed, but I was told months ago by a state trooper: “A person walking a bicycle is considered to be a ‘dismounted cyclist’, not a pedestrian.” So I went with it.
Thank you all for your prayers!
It was really bittersweet to cross that bridge, leaving behind both Washington and my brother Danny. He took me back across the bridge to pick up my car, then we hugged goodbye as he started his 2-day drive back to Salt Lake City.
